As I am writing this post, the Property Soul youtube channel has reached 1,024 subscribers and a total of 54,563 views.
They are very humble figures. But I am very happy because I know you are one of the subscribers of my youtube channel. Thank you very much for your support!
For the last six months, lots of time and efforts were spent making the videos – not for making money or building online fame, but for sharing with fellow home buyers and property investors neutral and unbiased views on the Singapore property market.
In this Little Red Dot, we only have 5.6 million population and 460,000 people who own private properties. So it is unnecessary to act funny, strange, cute or fashionable to get that one million subscribers.
I hope the channel can attract property enthusiasts who have independent thinking and are serious about property investment. We are looking for quality rather than quantity here – the same for my blog subscribers, book readers and facebook followers.
Doing youtube videos is a steep learning curve for me. I thought it is similar to delivering a speech or hosting a workshop, except it can be done at home. I had no idea I have to know so much about audio/video, filming and video editing.
The first youtube video was a disaster: Lighting was terrible. Audio from the microphone was hardly audible. Webcam was positioned wrongly that flattened my facial features. Video and audio were not in sync. Couldn’t have air-con or fan on, nor open any window to avoid unwanted noise. I was not used to talking to a camera and ended up standing there soaking in sweat for hours.
Six months later and after eighteen videos, I have changed cameras and microphones a few times. Now before I start recording, I make sure that I have a script with me, set up the studio lighting kit, and use a professional camera.
I want to thank Michael Cho of Urban Zoom and Urban Agents, who proposed the youtube idea, and shared with me his professional equipment and knowledge generously. Thank you for giving me the chance and encouraging me to try something new. You can’t imagine the kind of patience a tech geek needs for a tech idiot.
As we age, there are fewer and fewer new things we will try. There are also less and less new achievement we can celebrate. What we left are simply repeating the same old successes.
To me, the satisfaction of learning how to make youtube videos is much bigger than buying another undervalued property and selling it for hundred thousands of profit. Not because I don’t care about money. But there are things in life that are more fulfilling than adding more zeros to the bank account.
Sincerely hope that I can improve the youtube videos along the way. Hope that my subscribers can notice that too.

Congrats, 100 ticks for honesty.
Cannot stand those who keep misleading people with misinformation to make a living. They think singaporeans are mostly stupid.
One agent (who authored a book as well) keeps singing ‘shoot up, shoot up, property prices, just close your eyes and imagine like hk’
Another who writes in a few blogs wrote ‘ these days people buy not considering rental yields (yes, he knows it is crap, then he misleads) just buy for hedge against inflation’
Cannot quite understand, but the underlying meaning is just buy, buy, buy. ( but of course money into his pocket)
Property Soul says
Agree. As I mentioned in my old blog post “Trust is a scarce commodity in properties” (https://www.propertysoul.com/2017/02/17/trust-is-a-scarce-commodity/), Singapore has a high-trust culture. But unfortunately, property is a low-trust industry. We can still choose to trust, but trust smartly, not blindly.
Allow me to repeat the 3 simple strategies:
1) Insist on full disclosure;
2) Verify; and
3) Reference check

Congrats. I appreciate your neutral coverage of property news and analysis.
I’ve been making Youtube videos almost daily since 2015.
Here’s a tip for you, audio quality and content are the only things that matter.
Youtube has way more potential than investing in a property.
Property Soul says
Hi Teoh, thanks for your tips! You are a far more experienced youtuber than me. Do drop me messages when you have time and let me know how I can improve from there.
Teoh says
Another tip is to create a variety of content.
Then look at the data to see what type of content are popular.
You can also ask people to send in questions for you to answer.
That’s an easy way to come up with content to make videos.
I’m sure when your channel becomes more popular, there may be advertisers (you know which type) who would be interested to appear on your channel.

Thanks for the additional tips.
Yes, I will be interviewing experts in upcoming episodes. Not the paid ones. But people I truly admire in this industry.
