Last week I visited Hong Kong with my daughter. A friend kindly let us stay with her for a few days.
Her home is at Manhattan Hill, a high-rise development located in West Kowloon. There are five 62-storey towers, totaling 1,115 units.
The 5-year-old project was built by Sun Hung Kai Properties, the largest developer in Hong Kong.
It’s convenient. Next to the front entrance is a shopping mall that you can find Market Place and Pacific Coffee. A five to ten minutes’ walk can reach two popular supermarkets, a wet market and the Mass Transit Railway station.
It’s safe. Security guards in uniform were found at the main entrance, on the podium floor and at the entrance of all towers. They are very polite and helpful. But they did check on ‘strangers’ like me and make sure that I scan my residence card at both the lift lobby and the tower entrance.
To me, this place is no different than a five-star hotel, except the more luxurious and classy ambience.
The impressive 50,000 sq ft clubhouse features a cozy cafe, two outdoor pools and even a warm water indoor pool. See photos of the clubhouse from the developer’s website.
Coming back from shopping one evening, I finally realized what made this place so special.
On the way back to our tower, when I passed the SkyPark at the podium (on the 5th floor), I was startled by the amazing night scene of the Hong Kong island across the Victoria Harbour.
Right in front of me, I had full view of IFC (International Finance Centre), Central Plaza , Bank of China, and the astonishing The Center that showcased a slow-changing colorful light show at night with 8,784 red, green and blue neon tubes!
With my mouth wide-opened, for very long I was unable to move an inch while carrying the shopping bags in my arms.
I remember the last time when I was ‘struck’ by a scenery like this, I was looking down from the SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands.
But this one, is a place you can call home!
That night my friend told me that celebrity Andy Lau, one of the four Hong Kong heavenly kings, recently came for house viewing with his wife (and they just got a baby girl). They bought the penthouse. And it’s the tower with the best night view.
If the night view was so stunning on the 5th level, it would be a paradise you could see from the 62nd floor!
I couldn’t help but asked my friend whether she had thought of moving to the same tower overlooking the Victoria Harbour.
She replied promptly,
“Are you crazy? Do you know how much it costs?”
I had no idea. So I went to the developer’s website to check the price.
Apparently, a penthouse with 1,801 sq ft on the 62nd floor of Tower 6 is asking for HK$45million (S$7.5 million). And that’s S$4,160 psf!
Since I return from Hong Kong, every time when I tuck my baby daughter into bed, I will murmur something like this,
“My pretty girl, I know you can be a celebrity too. And one day when you buy that penthouse, remember to ask mommy to stay over … that’s my only wish for you.”
